Wellness? What does wellness have to do with writing? A lot! Whether writing is your job or a simple occasional act, writing often includes a lot of sitting. Sitting for extended periods of time can be detrimental to your health. The hazards of sitting are clearly depicted HERE.
Furthermore, improved wellness leads to improved cognitive functioning. Put simply, this means that if you are healthier you will think better. If you think better, you will write better! Summer McGee, an associate professor at the University of New Haven, is an example of how this is true. She has realized my dream! Read about her story HERE.

I am particularly concerned about wellness in the local context -- I love Qatar, and I am increasingly concerned about the overall health of the country's citizens. My goal is to raise awareness about simple and easy ways to improve personal wellness. There are so many diseases that people have no control over, but some are more easily prevented and managed.
Walk N Talk is an initiative I began at Virginia Commonwealth University. See flyer for details. This program seeks to get people moving, even if for just a short time, each day. You can also read an article about this initiative on page 14 of the QF Telegraph, Issue 104, or directly here.
